General
The Authority was created as a public body corporate and politic pursuant to the Housing Finance Authority Law, following the enactment by the Board of County Commissioners of Manatee County, Florida (the “County Commission”) of Ordinance No. 79 6 on July 17, 1979, as amended by Ordinance No. 91 40 enacted by the County Commission on May 7, 1991, and a resolution declaring the need for the Authority to function adopted by the County Commission on October 30, 1979. In furtherance of the public purposes described in the Housing Finance Authority Law, the Authority is empowered to alleviate the shortage of affordable residential housing facilities and to provide capital for investment in such facilities for low, moderate or middle income families and persons within its area of operation through the issuance of its revenue bonds for the purpose of providing funds to purchase mortgage loans to finance the acquisition of single-family residences.
A majority of the Authority’s board members are required to be knowledgeable in one of the following fields: labor, finance or commerce. Each member serves for a four-year term. No member receives compensation for services rendered, but each member is reimbursed for necessary expenses incurred. Action by the Authority must be by vote of the members, three members constituting a quorum, and the affirmative vote of at least a majority of members present at a meeting constituting the requisite consent. The present members of the Authority are set forth below.
